What To Expect
If it is your first session, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior so we can discuss your intake form.
Take time to set your intentions prior to your arrival. This could be as simple as "I want the pain in my neck to go away" to "I want to create more balance" or gain insight to a specific question that you have in your life.
This is not even necessarily something you have to share with your practitioner. It is simply advised to just take a moment to consciously connect to your Inner Wise Self.
To receive optimal care on all levels, this is about connecting into your mental and emotional self. This is just as important as the physical body aspect of the massage therapy/bodywork/energy work process.
Therapeutic and Relaxation Massage
If it is your first session, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior so we can discuss your intake form and get settled in.
After the discussion is complete, you will undress to your level of comfort and remain safely draped with a top sheet and blanket throughout the session.
Therapeutic massage sessions will address pain ranging from long term chronic pain to a more acute injury.
If you have recently injured yourself, please check in that you are able to receive care. Some injuries cannot be treated right away.
Painful areas in the body will be our main areas of focus while still addressing the entire system. To give the best results, we must work the whole muscular/myofascial system for the results to hold.
If you specifically indicate that you do not want us to work on any particular area, then we will honor your wishes.
Your initial session allows the therapist to scan what else may be going on with your body that you might not be aware of or forgot to list as an area where you hold tension or pain as it's a secondary or tertiary pain in the body.
This also gives insight into what goals and self care we can outline for you as to frequency of care needed as well as at home stretches and movements to continue to support your overall wellness.
Myofascial Massage
If it is your first session, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior so we can discuss your intake form and get settled in.
Myofascial work is different from other massage therapy techniques in that no oils are used throughout the entire session. The emphasis is on long slow holds and stretches. Your practitioner's hands hook into your myofascial system allowing the body to unwind and change to take place on its own.
We recommend wearing short shorts for Myofascial sessions. Especially if your treatment is for low back pain as to be able to move through the range of motion needed with your legs and apply techniques to the pelvis where we will need you to be clothed.
Thai Yoga Massage
If it is your first session, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior so we can discuss your intake form and get settled in.
Wear comfortable clothing that will allow the therapist to move you through a variety of stretches to increase range of motion.
Energy Work and Sound Healing
If it is your first session, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior so we can discuss your intake form and get settled in.
Wear comfortable clothing. You will be laying on the massage table for both energy work and sound healing sessions.
In Reiki/Energy work sessions, hands are placed above or sometimes on the body. There is sometimes the use of acupressure to work the energy through the meridians of the body as well.
In sound healing sessions, the singing bowls are placed on or around your body to allow the frequencies of the bowls to be felt in the body and through the table.
The idea is that the brain will shift into the theta wave state allowing for a state of deep relaxation, subconscious debris to be cleared, mental clarity to be gained, and the chakras to be balanced.
Sometimes this may simply seem like you are taking a nap on the table. However you are gaining much more interdimensionally as each session is infused with Reiki healing and prayer.
Post Session Care
After your sessions, please remember to drink plenty of water. It's important that when we move the systems of your body (both the muscular system and the lymphatic system) that you flush out any toxins that have been released to support your body’s healing.
It's also recommended to have some time to enjoy the state of relaxation achieved from your session.
If you have any questions or concerns post session, please contact us so we can continue to support you on your healing journey beyond your sessions.
We are honored that you have chosen Awaken Healing + Massage to empower you on your health and wellness journey.
